Volunteer Parent Mentor

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

At least 5 years of experience working with families or children; this may include raising your own children.  Satisfactory completion of our in-house training program (20 hours).  Knowledge of family violence, child abuse, and the dynamics involved is preferred, but not required.  Must be self-motivated.  Adequate means of transportation is a requirement.  

 

LEVEL OF SUPERVISION:

Directly supervised by the Executive Director, with daily input and guidance by the Parent Mentor Coordinator.  The Parent Mentor Coordinator is also responsible for assigning cases.  Cases are reviewed (verbally) every two weeks by the Executive Director to ensure that the match is a good fit, that progress is being made, and that the provided resources are adequate.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1)Scheduled Time

•Hours will be 2-4/week.  Anything over 4 hours should be approved in advance by the Executive Director.

•Hours will include all meetings, home visits, travel time to and from client visits, documentation, preparation, and anything else pertaining to this position as authorized by the Executive Director.

 

2)Caseload

•Caseload will be 1-2 families.  The exception may be if a client will close within two months, a new case, if there is a desire to continue taking families, may be assigned, resulting in a slight temporary increase.

•Only prevention families will be assigned; however, opportunities to work with intervention families may be available.  Additional training will be required.

 

3)Case Management

•Schedule, a visit each week with assigned family for 1-1.5 hours.  Days and times are flexible.  Determine what works best for everyone.    

•Record progress notes directly in the file while visiting with the family.  Files must be returned to the office within 24 hours.  

•All documentation, including legal, assessments, and progress notes are to be kept in the file in the format provided.  Family files are audited monthly.

 

DUTIES:

General:

•Tabulate time daily

•Maintain time-study (when in progress)

•Turn in hours weekly, via text or email (Saturday at the latest)

 

Meetings:

•Staff Meeting – Weekly on Wednesday at 1:30pm (Optional)

•Home Visits as scheduled

 

Optional Events/Opportunities:

•Speaking engagements

•Fundraisers

•Community Events where we have a booth

•Other events as requested by the Executive Director

 

Screening:

•All volunteers are required to complete our screening process which includes a criminal background check and two reference checks.  

•Placements are not guaranteed.
